Although everyone has "moles" on their skin there certainly is a concern that in some people these could eventually develop into a form of skin cancer named "melanoma". Persons most at risk are those with fair skin and a history of multiple severe sunburns during childhood. Any mole that with time changes shape (spreads or thickens), color, or begins to ulcerate or bleed should be evaluated by their family doctor or dermatologist. Also, individuals with many moles should routinely keep an eye on their skin for any such changes. Early detection can mean a big difference regarding treatments and survival.
