Diarrhea

Diarrhea can be caused by a variety of things including cancer treatment, infections, food sensitivity, and emotional problems.

Try the following to cope with diarrhea:

  • Drink lots of liquids
  • Eat small amounts of food several times throughout the day
  • Eat foods and liquids that contain sodium and potassium
  • Low-fiber foods may be good
  • Drink fluids at room temperature
  • Don't eat or drink products that contain caffeine
  • Be careful when using milk and milk products, you may be lactose intolerant
  • Your doctor may suggest you try a clear liquid diet if you have sudden, short-term diarrhea
Try to avoid the following:
  • Greasy, fatty, or fried food
  • Raw fruits or vegetables
  • High-fiber vegetables
  • Strong spices
