Nausea

Nausea is a common side effect of cancer treatment, and can also be caused by the disease itself or other conditions that aren't related to cancer.

The following may help you to overcome nausea:

  • Medication
  • Eat small amounts, often
  • Don't eat in a stuffy or warm room that might smell of cooking odors
  • Don't drink a lot of liquids while you eat
  • Sip on liquids throughout the day
  • Use a straw to drink
  • Drink cool or chilled beverages
  • Eat food at room temperature or cooler
  • Don't force yourself to eat your favorite foods when you feel nauseated
  • Rest sitting up after meals
  • Wear loose-fitting clothing
  • Don't eat for 1 or 2 hours after treatment
  • Try to track when you feel nauseated and what causes it, and then avoid those things
