Finding Support and Support Groups

An important step toward recovery for you and your family may be finding special resources for services you may need and emotional support from others who have shared the same experiences you have or will be going through shortly.

Services you may need include information on cancer counseling, home health care, hospice care, rehabilitation, advocacy, financial concerns, housing and lodging issues, and children's services.

Identifying resources for these services can start
with the members of your health care team, staff
members from the hospital, clinic, or medical center where you are being treated, doctors, and nurses. In some cases, there will be social workers, and home care or discharge planning departments that can help you find these resources in your community.

Other resources for this type of information may include:

  • Public libraries
  • Local Church or Synagogue
  • YMCA or YWCA
  • Fraternal Orders
  • Catholic Charities
  • United Way
  • American Red Cross
  • Local government agencies
