Vomiting

Vomiting may be the result of many things, including treatment, odors, food, gas, or motion. Even certain surroundings such as the hospital may cause vomiting.

Your doctor may prescribe medication to control vomiting and nausea. Vomiting may also be controlled with relaxation exercises or meditation that involve deep rhythmic breathing and concentration. Other things that may help prevent vomiting include:

  • Not drinking or eating anything until the vomiting is under control
  • Drink small amounts of clear liquid only after vomiting is controlled
  • If you keep clear liquid down, try a full-liquid diet
  • Once you tolerate a full-liquid diet, gradually add more foods
