Fiber-Restricted Diet

At times during your treatment it may be necessary to follow a special diet to correct nutritional problems that have occurred. Only your doctor or dietitian should decide when you need to follow a special diet and for how long of a period you should follow that diet.

If your gastrointestinal tract is unable to digest your food properly, you may be put on a fiber-restricted diet. Often, this diet is implemented following GI surgery or when cancer treatment has damaged the bowel or irritated the GI tract. This type of diet is also helpful if you are having a hard time digesting lactose.

In the fiber-restricted diet, you will be able to eat a limited amount of vegetables, fruits, cereals, and grains. Milk and milk products are also limited.
